Nutrition 101

Macronutrients are nutrients our body needs in big amounts to stay healthy. They include carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. Micronutrients are needed in smaller amounts, like vitamins and minerals. Both macronutrients and micronutrients are important for staying healthy and avoiding illnesses.

Carbohydrates

Carbohydrates are one of the three main macronutrients that give us energy. They are in foods like bread, pasta, fruits, and vegetables. Carbohydrates turn into glucose, which our body uses for energy.

Fats

Fats are another macronutrient our body needs. They provide energy, help us absorb vitamins, and support hormone production. But not all fats are the same. It’s best to eat healthy fats from nuts, seeds, and fish, and avoid unhealthy fats from processed foods.

Protein

Protein is also one of the three main macronutrients our body needs. It helps build and repair body tissues. Protein is made of amino acids, which are like building blocks. You can get protein from meat, fish, eggs, dairy, beans, and nuts. Eating enough protein is important for good health.

Vitamins and Minerals

Vitamins and minerals are essential nutrients needed in smaller amounts. Vitamins support growth and repair, while minerals are important for strong bones, healthy blood pressure, and proper metabolism. Eating a variety of nutrient-rich foods, like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, help us get all the vitamins and minerals we need to stay strong and healthy.
